Here is a video I came across on youtube, trying to get a feel for what the cityscape looks like on a ground level. It is roughly edited, and the music is a little funny, but this is a great video because it shows some very good images of the city and some insight in to what Pakistani people are proud of in the city.

Should Islamabad always be called Islamabad: the Beautiful? Do you think it is a beautiful city?

Seperation of State and Society in Islamabad

This blog explores city planning in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad.

Islamabad was designed to intentionally isolate the Pakistani bureaucracy from society so that it could operate free of societal influences. It is an important example of total city planning.

In response to rapid population growth and bureaucratic inefficiency, communities of squatters have developed on the peripheries of the city.

This blog will help expose the tools of city planning and to help bring attention to the people in squatter settlements who are deemed illegal.

This blog represents the culmination of my research, and I take full responsibility for the claims that I am making. However, I recognize that my analysis of the city is limited by never actually visiting Islamabad, and that the people who live in the city may feel differently.
